In the thirteenth century Lostwithiel was the capital of the Duchy of Cornwall.
The thirteenth century parish church, St. Bartholomew's, has a fouteenth century font and a superb example of a lantern spire.
There is a Tudor bridge in the town and the museum is partly located in the old prison.
